Japan Internet of Things Forecast by Vertical Industry and Use Case, 2019-2023

By: Yuta TorisuSenior Market Analyst, Communications, IDC Japan

Abstract

This IDC study presents user spending forecasts in the Japan IoT by industry segment and use case. The degree of attention gained by Internet of Things (IoT) in Japan is growing. This increasing attention is triggered among others, by the growing concern about diminishing working population and improved business sentiment in anticipation of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Technological advances, namely the growing sophistication in artificial intelligence (AI) platforms and analytics tools that require IoT, also lead to the growth in the IoT market. Furthermore, fusing together data, knowledge, and know-how, which until now are utilized separately in each industry segment by vendors and IoT user companies, across industries as a data ecosystem also contributes greatly to the IoT market expansion.

"Reinforcing data ecosystem together with advanced businesses is vital in order for vendors to increase their earning power through cocreation with businesses, and this can be achieved through consulting in selecting the optimal data platforms and clearly defining the monetization model. Vendors are also required to provide advice that will strengthen corporate human talent development and reinforce the coordination between organizations within businesses in their efforts to gradually expand the business group that may engage in data monetization in the future," says Yuta Torisu, senior communications market analyst, IDC Japan.
