Abstract

This IDC study is a translation of the Japanese document (IDC #JPJ44004818) and analyzes the Japan IT security market and provides a forecast from 2019 to 2023. The privacy act is becoming a legislation based on data sovereignty such as the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (EU GDPR). Regulations regarding privacy data protection have become more stringent. As supply chains are also required to conform to the protection of controlled unclassified information (CUI) resident in nonfederal systems and organizations in the United States' security measure standard NIST SP800-171, Japanese companies that have dealings with the U.S. government and procurement-related companies are also required to conform to this standard. Although "innovation accelerators" for accelerating DX such as artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, and augmented reality and virtual reality (AR/VR) utilize accumulated data to create new businesses, they may be a huge risk and barrier to business continuity if data integrity cannot be maintained. Data protection will be the most important measure not only for personal data but also for corporate and organizational confidential data and other general data.

"Product suppliers and service providers should not only provide cybersecurity measures for networks and servers in which data is stored, but also solutions that consider data protection and data recovery," says Tsuneo Tosaka, research manager, Software and Security, IDC Japan.
