By: Akira MuranishiResearch Manager, IT Spending, IDC Japan, Hitoshi IchimuraResearch Manager, IT Spending, IDC Japan

Abstract

This IDC study presents the Japan IT spending performance (2017 and 2018) and forecasts (2019 to 2023) in the Japan IT market by industry segment and company size. In this study, IDC analyzes the market after dividing the industries into 21 segments and the company sizes and product segments into five categories. IDC also reports on IT spending trends in the relevant industry segments.

IDC believes that there is an increasingly need for IT suppliers to actively shift from a traditional model of providing hardware and package for on-premise systems to a subscription model that provides IT resources via cloud. This subscription model should be able to support industry changes as well as changes in the business structure of user companies. IDC also believes that proposals that utilize the 3rd Platform and innovation accelerators will become more important. Based on forecast data that shows these market changes, Akira Muranishi, research manager of IT Spending in IDC Japan, states that "The time has come for IT suppliers to review their existing system from sales to maintenance, based on a business model that traditionally provides IT solutions for on-premise systems. The review should be in line with the cloud shift that is starting across industry segments and company sizes and will accelerate in the future."
