By: Yoko OnoResearch Manager, Communications, IDC Japan

Abstract

This IDC study presents forecasts for the number of connections and revenue or spending in the Japan key telecommunications services markets from 2019 to 2024: enterprise WAN, mobile telecommunications, enterprise wireless IoT telecommunications, fixed broadband, VoIP, and fixed voice/ISDN. IDC also presents forecasts for the number of 5G lines, the WAN services market for public cloud connection applications, and the mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) telecommunications services market as focus areas. The market forecasts in this study take into consideration the impact and outlook of the COVID-19 pandemic as of the end of March 2020.

"Mobile devices and IoT devices are now included in enterprise WANs, and it is crucial for WAN service providers to utilize 5G in order to maximize the performances of these devices. WAN service providers are required to turn 5G into a competitive access network by drawing out the merits of 5G and compensating for its weaknesses through line redundancy according to the application," says Yoko Ono, research manager, Communications, IDC Japan.
