Japan IT Services Forecast by Vertical Segment, 2020−2024

By: Akihiro KimuraResearch Manager, IT Services, IDC Japan

Abstract

This study presents the general situation and trends of the Japan IT service market and summarizes the IT services spending for each of the six industry sectors (major classifications) and three service segments (medium classifications), in addition to the analysis by 18 industrial classifications (small classifications) of user enterprises; and estimates the market size and growth rate from 2020 to 2024. It also adds the IDC's recommendations to service vendors. In 2019, the Japan IT services market increased 3.2% on a year-over-year basis because of an increase in IT investment centered on manufacturing, distribution, and government/public services, as well as last-minute demand before sales tax increase and special demand for replacement due to the termination of Windows 7 support. In 2020, the growth rate will slow down because of a downturn in special demand in the previous year. However, demand for reform and cloud migration of mission-critical systems triggered by corporate DX and digitalization, will support market growth from 2020 onward. "It is essential for IT suppliers to strengthen their human resource strategies to promote digital transformation. They should engage in reviewing employee experience processes and improve employee experience in their companies from the employees' perspectives," says Akihiro Kimura, research manager, IDC Japan.
