By: Akira MuranishiGroup Manager, IT Spending, IDC Japan

Abstract

This IDC Study is a translation of the Japanese document (IDC #JPJ44587419) and reports the results of IT expenditures (2017 and 2018) and forecasts (2019 to 2023) by industry sector, company size, and annual turnover in the Japan IT market. In this survey, IDC divides industries into 21 categories, 5 company sizes and 5 product categories, and 4 annual turnover scales; and report trends in IT expenditure in each industry.

There is an urgent need for IT suppliers to transform their business model from the traditional business model based on selling off by providing on-premises systems to a subscription-type business model that provides IT resources while flexibly responding to changes in users' business structures and formats. IDC also believes that in order to analyze various data and for user companies to generate new value creations, IT suppliers will need to strengthen their digital consultant domain that supports users' businesses from upstream. Taking into consideration the predictive data showing these market changes, IDC Japan IT Spending's Research Manager Akira Muranishi, says "IT suppliers are urgently required to transform their systems to support user companies from upstream processes to IT development/operations, in line with changes in business models that begin in all areas of industry, company size, and annual turnover."
