Japan Internet of Things Forecast by Vertical Industry and Use Case, 2021−2025
This IDC study forecasts user spending in the Japan Internet of Things (IoT) market by industry sector and use case. Various changes in the external environment, such as growing concerns over the labor shortage and the sophistication of analytics tools and artificial intelligence (AI) platforms, are driving the IoT market growth in Japan. Efforts to enhance the mechanism for distributing data are also gaining momentum, as well as efforts to device new service models, such as data as a service, and to establish laws and regulations regarding data handling. It is expected that more businesses trying to build digital solutions that utilize internal and external data in a complex manner will start IoT efforts to acquire new required data. In addition, there is a high possibility that the number of businesses promoting IoT initiatives with the main purpose of providing (selling) the acquired data externally will increase.
"How IoT solutions are will change dramatically in the next normal. For example, as measures to cope with the increase in unemployment rate triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic and mechanisms for realizing flexible workstyle are required, it is possible to establish an effective flexible workstyle compared with that in the past, as well as to allocate appropriate human resources (HR) for the right job that is unmatched in the past by converting evaluation of human abilities from various angles into data and applying the data across companies through various technologies, including IoT. Vendors should promote measures for data conversion in areas that were previously difficult to do so by utilizing IoT technology and they should engage in expanding the IoT business in the next normal by maximizing the ideas generated from these efforts," says Yuta Torisu, senior market analyst, Communications, IDC Japan.
