Abstract

This IDC study presents the Japan IT market actual IT spending in 2020 and 2021, and the IT spending forecast from 2022 to 2026 by industry segment, company size, and annual turnover. The study also analyzes IT spending by dividing the industries into 21 categories, company size, product segments into five categories, and annual turnover into four categories; and discusses IT spending trends observed in each industry segment.

IDC believes that the use of digital technology to build diverse ecosystems and strengthen resiliency (the ability to recover quickly from difficult situations/flexibility and responsiveness to change) to prepare for emergencies in times of peace is a capability that all companies must acquire in order to achieve new corporate growth in the future. Companies whose business is based on the use of digital technology are actively investing in IT for data utilization. They are working on data-driven management, which involves building a business system to accumulate data, analyzing and visualizing the data accumulated in the company, and reflecting the results in decision-making. For companies in which data utilization has become the norm, participation in collaborative platforms will become the standard in the future, enabling not only the use of data owned by the company, but also the use of data collected by third parties, such as human flow data in the retail industry, and the use of data across companies and industries.

“In order to support user companies’ data-driven management, it is important for IT suppliers to promote the construction of cocreation platforms based on data utilization in a wide range of industries and to expand the possibilities of cross-domain data utilization,” says Chikara Abe, IT spending senior market analyst, IDC Japan.
