The Impact of COVID-19 on the Adoption and Usage of Cloud Services in Saudi Arabia

By: Mohammed Azim AnsariResearch Analyst

Abstract

The COVID-19 crisis has upended how organizations work and operate. This IDC Survey Spotlight uses data from a January 2021 IDC survey of CIOs that sought to identify the triggers driving businesses in Saudi Arabia to adopt cloud services. Due to a pandemic-induced increase in demand, local firms have turned to global hyperscalers for assistance with cloud services adoption to make their operations more efficient and scalable. Cloud computing can boost competitiveness by reducing costs, enhancing flexibility and elasticity, and maximizing resource use. Survey respondents believe cloud services and functionalities — including infrastructure as a service, platform as a service, hybrid and multicloud, Big Data analytics, storage, disaster recovery, and data backup — can enable businesses to achieve their goals. This document offers technology vendors and cloud service providers an enhanced understanding of what businesses require. They can leverage these insights to improve their offerings, demonstrate their ability to support remote work arrangements, and boost confidence in their datacenters, networks, and services.
