Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight examines how organizations in South Africa are adopting technology to support the complex operational and application requirements of today's evolving digital landscape. It presents data from the South Africa sample of IDC's Telecom and IoT Survey, 2023, which polled the decision makers responsible for connectivity, networking, Internet of Things (IoT), and future planning in their organizations. Respondents were asked about their adoption patterns and plans for connectivity, IoT, and software-defined WAN (SD-WAN) solutions over the next two years.

“Organizations are increasingly seeking to utilize the unique capabilities of emerging technologies such as SD-WAN, IoT, and 5G to support the complex requirements of remote and hybrid working models. Their digital transformation strategies focus on accelerated cloud migration, edge-to-cloud connectivity, IT/operational technology integration, and technology parity across remote, work-from-home, and office sites. Organizations are also prioritizing end-to-end security for their enterprise applications running at the edge and in the cloud. Consequently, organizations will increasingly require agile commercial models that are not only cost effective but also scalable and adaptable to the specific consumption patterns and use cases of technologies across industry verticals." — Senior Research Manager Keoikantse Marungwana, IDC South Africa
