Methods and Practices: 2015 Product and Service Innovation Survey — Ensuring Quality Is the Primary Goal

Authors: Heather Ashton, Jeffrey Hojlo
Abstract

This IDC Manufacturing Insights report is about our inaugural Product and Service Innovation Survey where we explore the business priorities and supporting technologies that manufacturing companies are focusing on today and tomorrow to drive their product life-cycle management (PLM) and service life-cycle management (SLM) strategies.

"Product innovation leads the list of business priorities for manufacturers in the next three to four years. What's clear for manufacturers is that the nature of how products are designed, brought to market, and serviced, is changing and continues to change, and thus the way engineering and R&D teams work needs to broaden in scope," says Jeffrey Hojlo, program director, Product Innovation Strategies.

"Faster response to product quality issues and customer complaints is the top SLM initiative. This reflects the desire to improve customer responsiveness as well as link service data more tightly with PLM," says Heather Ashton, research manager, Service Innovation and Connected Products Strategies.
