Consulting Director, Desktop Systems
Warren Childs has extensive experience in the collection and analysis of market research related to emerging technologies. He has a strong background in quantitative research analysis and has conducted numerous consulting projects in the areas of communications, computers, electronics, printing, and publishing. At IDC he is a Consulting Director for the Desktop Systems Research Group. At IDC, Mr. Childs originally was Research Manager for IDC's Small Business and Home Office Research programs. His responsibilities included forecasts and segmentation studies related to the use of advanced telecommunications, personal computing, and office automation products and services designed for small businesses and home offices. Prior to joining IDC Mr. Childs managed the market research operations for CAP Ventures in Norwell, MA, a market research and consulting firm that specializes in the electronic printing and publishing markets. In this position, Mr. Childs was responsible for the firm's primary research-based consulting and multi-client sponsored projects. Mr. Childs previously worked as the Director of Market Research with the Business Research Group of Cahners Publishing Company in Newton, MA. In this position he was responsible for the design, implementation and publication of research that covered a wide variety of technologies and business issues related to client-server computing, wireless communications, premise-based and network telecommunications, network integration and electronic components. He also initiated and served as Program Director for the Business Research Group's Small Business, Middle Market, and User Sending multi-client research programs. Mr. Childs has provided columns for DATAMATION and Print On Demand Business magazines and has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal. Mr. Childs has a degree in Economics from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA.
