John Simcox

Consulting Director, European Services

As consulting director for IDC's IT Services Group, John Simcox provides strategic analysis, go-to-market services, and business planning advice to vendors operating in the technology services arena.

Simcox's consulting engagements include authoring white papers, conducting surveys, validating business strategies, developing tactical sales tools, and partner and customer search and selection. His project expertise includes competitive analysis, benchmarking, market segmentation, commercial due diligence, go-to-market strategy, and opportunity analysis.

Simcox has over 30 years' experience in the IT industry, mainly as a marketing consultant helping vendors to understand the market opportunity that exists for their products and services and how to maximize their share of this potential market. He has also worked on projects for the European Union and both U.K. central and local government to help them formulate strategy for the adoption of technology and support for the technology industry.

Prior to joining IDC, Simcox held senior consulting positions with Pierre Audoin Consulting, Current Analysis, Ovum, Gartner, and Romtec. Before becoming a marketing consultant he worked for Wootton Jeffreys Systems Limited, initially as a software developer before moving into sales and marketing and ultimately becoming marketing manager for the business.

He gained a BSc honors degree in macromolecular chemistry and industrial studies from the University of Liverpool in the U.K., and holds the Chartered Institute of Marketing postgraduate diploma.
