David Laing

Research Manager, Enterprise Storage & Converged Systems

David Laing is a Research Manager within IDC's Enterprise Storage & Server team, covering Converged Systems.  David’s coverage includes integrated platforms and infrastructure as well as the rapidly growing hyperconverged systems market. David’s role includes quarterly tracking of Converged Systems market and to provide granular analysis of the underlying components and the intricate relations between suppliers and the channel network.

While at IDC, David has made significant contributions supporting the IT Service Management, Virtual Client Computing and other enterprise systems software markets. In addition, David has provided thought leadership content on IoT based on his experience covering embedded systems and M2M technology.

Prior to joining IDC, David spent four years as a Program Manager/Senior Analyst for VDC Research Group. While there, David covered topics such as Industrial Automation and Control (IAC), sensors, power protection including UPS and surge suppressors, embedded computing hardware, and the IoT. David has over 30 years of high-tech experience in multiple engineering and management roles within service-related organizations. Additionally, David has experience as a key development leader and evangelist for multiple generations of secure connectivity products that allowed remote desktop access and user collaboration.

David holds a B.S. degree from Wentworth Institute of Technology where he majored in Electronic Systems Engineering Technology. He received an MBA summa cum laude from Babson College, and has previously passed the Project Management Institute’s Project Management Professional (PMP) exam.
