Susan Martin

Adjunct Research Advisor

As a member of IDC's Research Network, Susan Martin provides research, advisory, and consulting services to CIO's and IT managers who are developing and implementing IT strategies, managing high risk application development projects, and rescuing troubled IT projects. Susan is also president of SMartin Consulting; her clients range from web and mobile start-ups to global investment banks such as CashPath, Nymboltec, Goldman Sachs, Royal Bank of Scotland, and Bank of Nova Scotia.  In her 25 years in application development, Susan has served as a  developer, application architect, software engineer, project manager, scrum master, CIO/ director of IT, Agile coach, and CIO Advisor.

Prior to launching SMartin Consulting, Susan was the Director and CIO at Bunge Global Markets, the startup trading and sales subsidiary of Bunge Limited, a Fortune 500 agribusiness and food company. At Bunge, Susan built the IT department from scratch, providing development, provisioning and integration of trading, operations and logistics applications in more than 20 locations throughout Europe, Asia, and North and South America.  She introduced methods and processes such as Agile, Test Driven Development, lean and six sigma-based practices, and implemented service oriented architecture (SOA) to reduce software development time and improve consistency across the global enterprise. She designed and managed the Integration Center of Competency (ICC), providing consistent information sharing across the global enterprise.

Prior to joining Bunge, Susan served as Senior Vice President, Global Trading Technologies at Republic National Bank in New York. Earlier, Susan was Vice President, Information Systems, for the North American IT organization of Westdeutsche Landesbank, Germany's largest state-owned bank, and also held a variety of roles from developer to Senior Project Manager for derivatives and government securities trading and operations at Credit Suisse First Boston. 

Susan earned an MBA in Finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a baccalaureate in computer science, with honors, from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh.
