As an IDC Asia/Pacific CIO Adjunct Advisor, Michael Lee advises the CIO/tech CxO community based on his extensive experience not only as an ex-CIO but also as a seasoned business executive in the hospitality industry. Michael is involved in many industry forums, where he shares his experiences and learnings and provides best practices and recommendations to other IT practitioners in this highly competitive digital era.

Michael joined the Banyan Tree Group in 2006, a leading international operator and developer of premium hotels, resorts, residences, and spas, as Group Head of Planning & Strategy. He was moved to head eCommerce before assuming his next position as Group Vice President of Marketing. He was promoted to Group CIO, and had served a total of 9 years. Tasked with initially laying the foundations of a global marketing system to support its expansion, his role evolved toward growing revenue lines, operational efficiencies, business intelligence and analytics through the leveraged use of ICT. His work included the rollout of central property management systems, internet booking engines, yield & revenue management systems, responsive website redevelopment, social media monitoring systems, master data, SharePoint intranet, business intelligence & analytics, budget management systems, HR & talent management systems, procurement systems, and PDPA.

Prior to joining Banyan Tree he was the CEO of Raffles Marina Limited for 6 years. He worked for CDL Hotels International (today named Millennium Hotels & Resorts) as Group Vice President of Marketing. Both appointments called for operations turnaround of underperforming assets and portfolio asset management.

Michael joined the Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore as Deputy Marketing Director, where he first honed his hotel operations skills and contributed to the CRM development of the property.

He had a stint in banking, having served as Vice President for Consumer Banking, United Overseas Bank (UOB). He was credited with building from scratch an integrated corporate credit card, consumer banking, and travel management system, and grew it into a leading Singapore agency and which, today, rivals American Express TRS.

Michael is a Chartered Marketer and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, U.K. and a member of the Chartered Financial Analyst Institute (U.S.A. and Singapore). He holds a Master of Business Administration degree and is a Certified Enterprise Systems Architecture and TOGAF Practitioner.
