An adjunct analyst with IDC's IT Executive Program (IEP), Galen Gruman draws on more than 30 years of experience in technology and IT analysis and reporting, in particular, the selection and usage of digital technologies in business. Galen focuses on IT needs, challenges, and deployment experiences around mobile and related user-oriented technologies like smartphones and tablets, mobile applications and services, and the shift to blended personal/corporate work environments. He has a particular interest in 3rd Platform evolution at businesses, educational institutions, and government organizations, where mobile technologies have been key to modernizing client devices in use and business workflows and operational capabilities.

Galen currently serves as editorial CTO for IDG US Media, publisher of Computerworld, CIO.com, and other enterprise-focused technology publications. He also serves as executive editor at InfoWorld, where he focuses on mobile and user-centric technologies. Galen spent seven years at the PwC Center for Technology and Innovation contributing to CIO-oriented thought leadership on a range of emerging technologies, from cloud computing to mobile technology. Previously, he worked as executive editor at M-Business, Upside, and Macworld magazines, West Coast bureau chief at Computerworld, and associate editor at IEEE Software. He holds a B.A. in Journalism and Political Science from the University of Southern California.
