Rajesh Ghai

Research Director, Carrier Network Infrastructure

Rajesh Ghai is Research Director for IDC's Carrier Network Infrastructure research program and is an integral part of IDC's broader Network Infrastructure research practice. In this role he serves as IDC’s subject matter expert on Carrier Networks, and the ongoing transition among communications service providers to build cloud-native /next gen network infrastructure solutions in their path towards becoming Digital Service Providers.

Specifically, his research focuses on technologies associated with efforts underway within Carriers to make their edge, core and radio-access infrastructure more agile, efficient and flexible to provide new value-added services and to enable 5G use cases. He spends a considerable amount of time researching adoption of network virtualization and software technologies such SDN and NFV, and more recently the rapid emergence of SD-WAN and vCPE solutions and related use cases.

He also provides insight into Network infrastructure migration strategies of service providers, including SDN/NFV use cases, strategies and solutions, including the adoption of open source platforms and protocols. In collaboration with other IDC research teams he contributes to the publishing of domain-specific market analysis/insights, surveys, white papers, quarterly trackers and end-user research. Rajesh also assists clients with custom consulting and research, including user surveys and buyer case studies. Through his work he is ultimately responsible for identifying and analyzing vendor strategies, emerging technology and market/customer trends affecting Telecom and Carrier IP Network buyers worldwide.


Prior to joining IDC, Rajesh spent close to a decade on Wall Street (most recently with Macquarie) as a publishing sell-side analyst covering Datacenter and Networking Infrastructure. He has spoken frequently at industry and customer events and has been quoted frequently in leading business and technology publications around the globe. Prior to Wall Street he managed large software programs for companies such as i2 Technologies and Alliance Data Systems.
