Jing Bing Zhang

Research Director, IDC Worldwide Robotics

Jing Bing Zhang is Research Director responsible for leading the IDC Worldwide Robotics and IDC Asia/Pacific Manufacturing Insights research programs, providing strategic directions for the groups and advice to technology vendors and end-user clients.  Dr. Zhang's core research coverage includes robotics, drones, and technologies driving the future of manufacturing.

Previously, Dr. Zhang worked for seven years as Senior Director and Engineering Site Leader at Kulicke & Soffa Singapore, in which he provided site leadership, coaching, and mentoring to the Singapore engineering department. Prior to that, he worked for 16 years at the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), with increasing responsibilities as manager of various research groups and programs, director of the Research Liaison Office, and member of the institute’s management committee. His research interests and experiences cover robotics, drones, smart manufacturing, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), manufacturing execution system (MES), automated warehousing and logistics systems, radio frequency identification (RFID), and internet of things/machine to machine (IoT/M2M) for manufacturing.

  • Recipient of Prestigious Engineering Achievement Award in 2003 from the Institution of Engineers, Singapore
  • Presenter and moderator at both industrial and academic conferences, as well as providing analysis for multiple media outlets, including Channel NewsAsia, South China Morning Post (SCMP), The Guardian, The Diplomat, CKGSB (Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business) Knowledge, and so forth
