This IDC study provides an assessment of the capabilities and business strategies of nine vendors in the worldwide cloud system software market for 2015–2016.
"As the industry moves to cloud, cloud system software is the foundation for building clouds. There are several platforms available in the market, with very different workload capabilities and integration options. There is definitely a trend toward highly integrated stacks that pull together many layers of software from a single vendor, but there are also some componentized, best-of-breed options," says Gary Chen, research manager, Software-Defined Compute. "Seven of the nine vendors evaluated are based on OpenStack, but these distros vary greatly in user experience and integration capabilities. This market is still evolving rapidly and today no platform has every capability; each has its own strengths and weaknesses."
