By: Kimberly Knickle, Jeffrey HojloProgram Director, Product Innovation Strategies, Fred Amoyaw, Arpana Bharti

Abstract

This IDC Manufacturing Insights report presents IT budget benchmark data and priorities for the engineering-oriented value chain (EOVC) — those manufacturers that must deal with complex products, such as automotive, aerospace and defense, and farm, construction, and industrial machinery.

According to Kimberly Knickle, research vice president, IT Priorities and Strategies program, "Manufacturers in the engineering-oriented value chain must continue optimizing their IT resources and investing in IT to achieve digital transformation. This will allow engineering-oriented manufacturers to make forward progress on top management priorities, such as incorporating 3rd Platform technologies, extending supply chains and suppliers as innovation partners, developing increasingly complex products and services, elevating quality, and increasing compliance."
