By: Stewart BondResearch Director, Data Integration and Data Integrity Software

Abstract

This IDC study describes the IDC MaturityScape for data governance. It identifies the stages, dimensions, outcomes, and actions that organizations should consider to effectively develop and deploy data governance. With the opportunity to improve data integrity in support of digital transformation, data governance requires policy, process, and effective collaboration between the business and IT to be successful. The IDC MaturityScape for data governance is a framework of five stages, critical measures, outcomes, and actions that organizations should consider to effectively advance along the successive stages of data governance competency.

"Data is core to digital transformation, and data governance will be required to improve the level of enterprise data integrity in support of digital transformation initiatives," says Stewart Bond, research director, Data Integration and Integrity Software at IDC. "Data governance is a discipline of innovative process, policy, people, data, and technology integrated and incorporated into everyday business operations and strategic decision making, resulting in higher levels of data integrity and better business outcomes."
