This IDC study covers the relative size, growth, and decline patterns for "packaged" mobile enterprise applications software. Mobility has become a core requirement for most enterprise applications today, although various capabilities, but not all functionality, need to be conducted across devices. Key market trends that impact this forecast include "mobile first" application development methodologies, an increase in digital transformation initiatives, and an increase in both the number of available applications and the number of constituents to which these applications are made available.
"IDC has seen massive growth in the numbers of mobile applications for enterprises as well as in the number of individuals inside and outside the company that are relying on these applications," said Amy Konary, program vice president, SaaS, Business Models, and Mobile Enterprise Apps, IDC. "We continue to see new market entrants that are leveraging their inherently mobile and cloud-based architectures for rapid deployment in addition to traditional players that are building mobile enterprise applications to help modernize on-premises legacy applications."
