Chief Learning Officer Survey: Measuring Learning and Development

Author: Cushing Anderson Program Vice President, Business Consulting and IT Education
Abstract

This IDC study presents data from a survey of 172 Chief Learning Officers (CLOs). This study describes the current state of measurement in learning and development and suggests practical steps for CLOs to adopt to improve the effectiveness of their learning and development measurement programs. Every important business activity is measured — financials, inventory, head count, payroll, and client engagement. The learning function is not exempt.

"Companies that incorporate even simple practices into their assessment methodology will see a marked improvement in the relevance of their training initiatives." — Cushing Anderson, Consulting, HR and Learning research
