Perspective: SOLIDWORKS World 2016 — Enabling Better Experience Design

This IDC Manufacturing Insights Perspective provides the highlights and our analysis of SOLIDWORKS World 2016. IDC Manufacturing Insights recently attended SOLIDWORKS World in Dallas, Texas, to hear updates from Dassault Systèmes (DS) executives and success stories from customers.

With digital transformation a focus of many manufacturers today, the initial comments by Dassault Systèmes executives at SOLIDWORKS World were focused around innovation and improving customer experiences, which were highlighted in the opening video, which showed the real world as a CAD model. Specifically, SOLIDWORKS CEO Gian Paolo Bassi welcomed everyone to the "age of the innovation platform," which will help "create products that enable exciting experiences." Monica Menghini commented that "experiences are the new economic offering." This messaging is consistent with the overall DS company shift toward supporting the experience economy; it's also a key mantra we heard at CES (Consumer Electronics Show) this year in Las Vegas. CAD is seen by SOLIDWORKS as a key piece of the innovation platform, and this was a strong message throughout the conference, highlighted by a number of new product releases.
