Perspective: SAS Targets Growth in Its Government Business, with a Renewed Focus on Fraud and Citizen Intelligence

Authors: Alison Brooks, Ph.D., Shawn P. McCarthy, Alan Webber
Abstract

This IDC Government Insights Perspective discusses the annual "Inside Analytics" analyst event held by the SAS Institute in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, in early March, and the message that was shared is that the company's financials are strong, but SAS is shifting focus toward urging its customer base for upgrades and modernization — to help end users take advantage of a range of key features of the software. SAS is also launching new product sets that build upon the company's current product line.

On the financial side, SAS saw global revenue of roughly $3.16 billion in total operating revenue, which is an annual increase of 6.4% in "constant currency" (a way of measuring revenue that drops the effects of exchange rate fluctuations). With the conversions, it equals about 2.3% growth in U.S. dollars. A bright spot is that new software sales increased 8% in the United States.
