Critical Issues: IT Strategy and Governance

By: Mike RosenAdjunct Research Advisor

Abstract

This IDC study provides CIOs and IT executives with an overview of IDC's IT Executive Program (IEP) Strategy and Governance Practice. It explains the area and scope of the practice, lays out the key issues, and describes the main research themes focused on addressing those issues. In addition, it describes the benefits and challenges of addressing these issues so that CIOs and IT leaders can adapt and adopt strategic planning and IT governance practices that enable digital transformation.

This study focuses on three IT Executive Program practice areas: strategy and governance, digital transformation, and strategic architecture.

"Strategy and governance are essential for focusing an enterprise on a future vision and then allocating resources on the most important projects to achieve that vision," says Mike Rosen, research vice president in IDC's IT Executive Program. "CIOs who want to participate and lead in their company's digital transformation must have effective, integrated strategic planning, and governance functions."
