This IDC study takes a detailed look at how the U.S. federal government is spending part of its IT budget on cloud-based solutions. According to IDC, U.S. federal government cloud computing has stalled from an investment standpoint. Cloud investments are set to drop from $2.6 billion in FY16 to $2.2 billion in FY17 — across all types of cloud solutions. That's a decrease of 17.2%.
"This decline is unexpected, especially given the multiyear double-digit growth trajectory we saw for federal cloud investments," said Shawn P. McCarthy, IDC Government Insights research director. "But FY17 appears to be an anomaly," he added. Growth potential for federal cloud remains solid and should reach nearly $3.3 billion in 2021.
