IDC MarketScape: Worldwide High-End Large Format UV-Curable Inkjet Printer 2016 Vendor Assessment

By: Tim GreeneResearch Director, Hardcopy Solutions

This IDC study assesses the major printer vendors that provide high-end large format UV-curable inkjet printing solutions to the worldwide marketplace. IDC believes this segment is a key growth market, and one that could facilitate expansion into other applications such as package printing. IDC expects the capabilities of the equipment to continue to improve and the key suppliers to continue to develop stronger ties into the high-speed markets, further enabling a transformation of large format graphics production away from screen and toward digital printing.

"The high-end large format UV-curable inkjet market segment is especially interesting because it is often where the sharpest of the cutting-edge technologies are introduced," said Tim Greene, research director in IDC's Hardcopy Solutions group. "This class of equipment represents a big investment for the end user, so when they are selecting a printer, they place a lot of emphasis on the equipment manufacturer as more than a supplier, but as a partner. So this analysis is about the high-end UV-curable inkjet printing solutions these companies offer, but it is just as much about the marketing and partnership capabilities these manufacturers bring to the table. To do that, we interviewed equipment users, suppliers, resellers, and executives at the companies themselves.
