On-line Presentation

This IDC Survey provides the results of a survey IDC conducted with outsourcers and managed service providers on their use of cloud management platforms (CMPs) as well as how their customers are utilizing these platforms as part of consuming managed cloud services, with a special focus on managed public cloud services. This survey was conducted at the end of 3Q17 through January 2018 and was completed by nine major outsourcers and managed service providers with a revenue base of technology outsourcing and managed services, involving both cloud and noncloud, of more than US$50 billion.

The results of this analysis provide insight into a wide array of factors involving CMP usage as part of managed services such as workloads supported on public clouds, top public cloud providers used on CMPs, contracting and engagement preferences, length of engagements, top industry usage, financial accounting, and service-level management. Finally, this study provides key takeaways and critical factors that providers of these capabilities need to consider as well as IDC's essential guidance that providers need to emphasize business value, provide a broad set of capabilities for CMPs, develop an "intelligent" delivery platform, and make strategic investments for long-term success.
