Industry Clouds — A Vignette of City, County, and State Government Adoption in 2017

Authors: Eric Newmark, Alison Brooks, Ph.D., Ruthbea Yesner Clarke

This IDC Perspective discusses the application and adoption of industry clouds within city, county, and state-level governments. Figures and data within this perspective are based on the results from IDC Insights' 3Q16 Industry Cloud Council Survey.

Eric Newmark, Program VP of IDC's Industry Cloud Research service, stated that "The industry collaborative cloud (ICC) market is growing fast, with dozens of new ICCs emerging each month across industries, including state and local governments. Enterprises in this space are increasingly offering their IP, expertise, and best-in-class capabilities through a broad range of cloud models, such as software as a service, hardware as a service, information as a service, and various business operations as a service, just to name a few. Consequently, many state and local government industry value chains will experience significant disruption over the next decade, and technology vendors need to prepare strategically to confront the impending industry disintermediation, technology convergence, and customer consolidation that will ensue."
