Laptop Price Changes and Buyer Reaction

Authors: Michael Menechella, Chris Murphy, Teodora Tafrova
Abstract

This IDC Perspective points out how IT buyers are reacting to the changing landscape in the PC marketplace. Over the past several years, PC sales have been decreasing while prices have flattened out and even increased in some cases. IDC explores how IT buyers are reacting to this phenomenon and how they are driving discipline and long-term price assurance.

Teodora Tafrova, senior analyst, IDC's Sourcing Advisory Services, says, "We have reviewed a large amount of PC deals in the past decade and have observed prices flattening over the past few years. New technology like 2-in-1 notebooks and tablets have led to rising prices on new models, and component supply constraints could lead to further increases down the road."
