By: Eric BurgenerResearch Vice President, Storage, Crawford Del PreteChief Operating Officer

Abstract

This IDC Market Note reviews the acquisition of Nimble Storage, a $400+ million publicly traded vendor of midmarket enterprise array offerings, by established enterprise storage provider HPE, and discusses the strategic value of the acquisition for HPE as well as the impact for Nimble's own customers.

"The acquisition of Nimble Storage by HPE brings key advantages along with it that will help make HPE stronger against its competitors," said Eric Burgener, research director, Storage, IDC. "It gives HPE a very strong storage platform offering for midmarket and SMB customers and provides access to the industry-leading InfoSight cloud-based predictive analytics telemetrics platform, which once integrated with the rest of its enterprise storage portfolio, should improve customer experience through ease of use, higher availability, and more automated operations."
