Vendor Sourcing and Management: Worldwide Cloud System Software Business and Technical Requirements RFP

By: Aaron PolikaitisVice President of Research, Vendor Sourcing and Management

Abstract

This IDC Perspective provides critical guidance to VSM executives and practitioners responsible for sourcing and negotiating cloud system software contracts. Assembling and issuing any RFP can be a daunting task and can potentially slow down or derail a digital transformation project. Utilizing disparate and outdated templates collected from various sources over many years often exacerbates the problem, creating confusing and complicated documents that are difficult to navigate. This document is one in a series of RFP-related studies containing contemporary, easy-to-use RFP templates to support a coordinated sourcing and negotiating strategy.

This document is concerned with vendor sourcing and management, WorkSource transformation, and outsourcing services.

"Many enterprises are deliberately or inadvertently avoiding the RFP process, primarily due to the length of time the traditional process consumes. There is no need to throw out the baby with the bathwater; RFPs and competitive environments can be created in a streamlined and expeditious manner, satisfying even the most aggressive of digital transformation timelines," says Aaron Polikaitis, vice president of IDC's IT Executive Programs (IEP).
