Abstract

This IDC study describes organizational characteristics at five levels of maturity, which represent an increasing contribution of learning and development to significant organizational objectives. Key stakeholders of learning and development for impact (LDI) initiatives include business leaders, learning and development executives, and learning program managers. These stakeholders can use the stages of this IDC MaturityScape to evaluate the current capability of the learning and development function and identify the next significant steps to continually improve the alignment of the learning and development function with the strategic intentions of the broader organization.

"When effectively deployed, these practices will ensure that the learning and development function is deploying its resources most effectively and maximizing the contribution of learning and development to enterprise success." — Cushing Anderson, program vice president, HR Talent and Learning Strategy research
