IDC MaturityScape Benchmark: Managed Digital Services in the United States, 2018

Author: David Tapper
Program Vice President, Outsourcing and Managed Cloud Services

Abstract

This IDC study is designed for business and IT executives who are responsible for procuring managed services to support digital needs (e.g., cloud, analytics, mobility, IoT, cognitive, and social media). This study presents the results of IDC's Managed Digital Services Benchmark Survey and should be viewed as a supplement to IDC MaturityScape: Managed Digital Services 1.0 (IDC #US42546616, May 2017). Together, these market assessments provide a comprehensive view of IDC's maturity model for managed digital services. This document enables organizations to:

  • Assess their current level of managed digital services competency and maturity.
  • Benchmark managed digital services maturity against the maturity level of their peers and business needs.
  • Uncover managed digital services maturity gaps and identify areas in need of improvement to achieve business transformation objectives and reach the optimized stage of performance.

"U.S. firms have begun their journey in using managed digital services to support their organization's shift to using digital capabilities (e.g., cloud, mobile, social, IoT, analytics, and cognitive) to maintain competitive advantage and create greater differentiation," states David Tapper, program VP, Outsourcing and Managed Cloud Services at IDC. "Reaching the optimized stage of maturity will require organizations to make fundamental changes not just in how they utilize these services but also in their business operations in areas such as talent, organizational structure, and financing."
