This IDC Perspective discusses how new technologies can remove supply chain barriers and solve the last-mile delivery problem to achieve a frictionless supply chain.
Consumers are increasingly making purchasing decisions based on what comes after they place an order, and retailers and suppliers are not doing enough to meet customers' delivery expectations. New technologies can remove barriers to perennial supply chain problems including orchestrating the ecosystem, managing the flow of goods, and putting products in the hands of customers while controlling costs. These tools provide visibility, intelligence, automation, and oversight on which new strategies and processes can be created to solve the most complex, expensive, and important part of the supply chain: "the last mile."
"New processes, business models, and partner relationships — powered by new technologies like blockchain, IoT, collaborative cloud, and AI platforms — provide the building blocks needed to remove decades-old supply chain barriers and solve the last-mile delivery problem," stated Leslie Hand, GVP, IDC Retail Insights.
