This IDC study provides a brief overview of the worldwide storage software and public cloud SaaS and IaaS market performance during the first calendar quarter of 2017 (1Q17).
"The worldwide storage software market experienced a slow first quarter, declining 2.6% year over year," said Andrew Smith, senior research analyst, Storage Software. "Declines continue to be driven by traditional, close-to-the-box technologies like replication software, which are increasingly being bundled or discounted by both multiline and SaaS providers. The demand for this type of technology is not going away, but as customers shift to SaaS, converged, and hyperconverged solutions, vendors are challenged to retain the value of some standalone storage technologies."
