Changing Skills in Cloud Environments

Author: Cushing Anderson Program Vice President, Business Consulting and IT Education
Abstract

This IDC Perspective — taking IDC's predictions related to hybrid cloud, workload-centric management, and DevOps organization into account — illustrates the changing IT skills of traditional roles and the challenges and opportunities faced by CIOs and their IT professionals. The migration to cloud requires a change in IT organizational skills, but the type of change is different for every role. Most organizations will need to increase business acumen, technical skills, and vendor management skills in all roles and functions.

"Migrating to the cloud is complicated and requires new skills — both to complete the migration and to run the new cloud-based infrastructure. IT organization must proactively prepare itself and train for a cloudier world." — Cushing Anderson, program vice president, IT Education and Certification research
