Category management is a practice that has been successfully leveraged to drive savings from the rationalization of technology categories used across enterprises for decades. Some enterprises are just beginning to take advantage of the practice. Yet others have successfully leveraged category management to achieve a finely tuned and coordinated technology portfolio that is economically leveraged across the enterprise. Nevertheless, category management has not been successfully leveraged to support digital transformation initiatives. The transient nature of category manager engagement with digital transformation teams inhibits a strategic focus on DX business requirements.
