SAP Opens Up with Data Hub

Authors: Stewart Bond, Carl W. Olofson

Abstract

This IDC Market Note summarizes data-oriented announcements made by SAP during its annual developer conference TechEd, held September 25-29, 2017, in Las Vegas, focusing on SAP Data Hub: a new governance, pipelining, and sharing software product.

"Data is distributed in cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments, in various formats and schema, getting too big, moving too fast, and changing too quickly to wait for batch processes to finish before data insight is realized and decisions can be informed," says Stewart Bond, director of Data Integration and Integrity Software research at IDC. "SAP Data Hub allows users to integrate a wide variety of data at rest and in motion, across hybrid environments, without moving the data into an SAP data management technology. This is a new chapter for SAP as it opens up to non-SAP data environments and opens up Data Hub to run in containers on hybrid infrastructure, while also allowing external control via APIs."
