North America 3D Printing Materials Forecast, 2018–2022
This IDC study forecasts the consumption of materials for the major 3D printing technologies in North America for the 2018–2022 period. The dynamics of the 3D printing market are constantly changing with new market entries, new technology introductions, and new materials that are enabling the industrialization of 3D printing.
"Innovation on the materials side is a critical enabler of expanding applications for 3D printing," says Tim Greene, research director, IDC's Hardcopy Solutions group. "As the market moves increasingly into production and tooling, there is a much greater need for high-performance materials and solutions that make 3D printing more economical. This can come from multiple sources — reducing the need for support structures, reducing the need for post-processing, greater production speed, and new materials that sell for lower prices — that change the economics of 3D printing large quantities."
