Cloud Sprawl: Quantifying and Addressing Current and Future Financial and Technical Risks

By: Aaron PolikaitisVice President of Research, Vendor Sourcing and Management, Robert MulthaupAdjunct Research Advisor

This IDC Perspective highlights some potential risks related to cloud sprawl and offers advice on key actions that may be taken to assess and mitigate such risks. Cloud-based technologies have changed the way the world manages IT. Applications hosted in private on-premise datacenters are being replaced with SaaS-based applications hosted on cloud-based architectures as enterprise LOBs rush to replace or supplement existing legacy applications. The result — "cloud sprawl."

"Most enterprises are not aware of the tremendous budget impact that today's cloud sprawl will have on tomorrow's bottom line, making an orderly approach to cloud-based innovation a priority," says Aaron Polikaitis, VP for IDC's Executive Programs Vendor Sourcing and Management.
