This IDC Perspective explains that distributed computing has recently seen dramatic changes that both are parallel to and support digital transformation, driven by the need for real-time engagements and decisions, the order of magnitude increase in data, the increased speed of change, and the ephemeral nature of the cloud. At the same time, exponential increases in computing power and cognitive/AI/ML technologies are enabling new solutions that weren't possible previously.
"This new world is dynamic, decentralized, data driven, automated, and self-learning," says Mike Rosen, research VP, Executive Insights. "Integration and orchestration services are a key component of the overall DX platform, providing connectivity for the exchange of data and services across a decentralized architecture, supporting real-time and near-real-time transactional and analytic requirements for experiential engagements, ecosystem awareness, augmented decision making, automated and connected products and services, and more."
