CES 2018: Reflecting Research on the Consumer Multiverse

Author: John Jackson
Research Vice President, Mobile & Connected Platforms

Abstract

This IDC Market Note uses data and findings from IDC's latest consumer surveys to provide a perspective on macro trends emerging from 2018's Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

"The consumer multiverse is a defining feature of the digitally transforming consumer landscape. It's also a defining challenge to consumer-facing organizations that will struggle to deliver consistent, cost effective, flexible, and scalable experiences to consumers as they connect to more things, services, platforms, and networks in more places, more often," said John Jackson, Consumer Research vice president, IDC. "Nowhere is this reality more loudly and clearly observable than at CES," he continued. "CES's themes are also reflected in and supported by our research. So rather than try to boil the CES ocean, we used this report to reflect our research and views of changing centers of power in the market on CES's key themes. We hope this provides consumer-facing organizations instructive guidance, grounded in data, about how to navigate the multiverse to reach the digitally transforming consumer."
