Worldwide Server Microprocessor Market Shares, 3Q17: By Vendor, Architecture, Channel, Socket, and System Category — Enterprise OEMs Begin Drawing Significant Volume of New Xeon Processors

Author: Shane Rau
Research Vice President, Computing Semiconductors

Abstract

This IDC study examines the performance of the server microprocessor market through several market views. Unit shipments and revenue by vendors are included as well as unit shipments by processor architecture, channel to customer, socket design capability, and system category. Processors designed for other system categories but consumed by servers are not covered in this study.

"OEMs began their ramp of new systems based on Intel Xeon Scalable platform processors in 3Q17," said Shane Rau, research vice president, Computing Semiconductors. "While major CSPs bought Intel's new Skylake SP processors early and began deploying them in 2Q17, most processor customers, like enterprise system OEMs and distributors, have ramped up their purchases of the new processors in 2H17 and will continue through 2018."
