How to Communicate the Need for New KPIs So That Employees Support Them

By: Amy YoungAdjunct Research Advisor

Abstract

This IDC Perspective provides the tools for crafting a communication strategy for rolling out new KPIs that capture the generation of business value through DX investments. The use of new KPIs will likely require a change in employees' mindset toward conceptualizing IT success and a change in terms of adapting to new operational procedures, cross-functional collaborations, and performance evaluations. The first step toward rolling out the new KPIs is successfully conveying to employees the nature of the change and gaining their buy-in toward a swift transition. This document tells readers how to:

  • Determine the number of separate communications needed during the rollout of KPIs
  • Identify the objective, audience, and means of communication
  • Determine whether objectives have been successfully achieved for each communication

According to Amy Young, adjunct research analyst with IDC's IT Executive Programs (IEP), "Successfully transitioning to the new KPIs begins with leadership. Leaders must first identify, through robust KPIs, how digital transformation investments are generating business value. The transition is not complete, however, until IT employees understand and are fully engaged in collecting and responding to the new KPIs."
