Google's Android Enterprise Recommended Program Creates Broader Enterprise Deployment Opportunities for the World's Biggest Smartphone OS

Authors: Phil Hochmuth, Bryan Bassett, Denise Lund

This IDC Market Note features Google's Enterprise Recommended program for Android device partners (announced February 21, ahead of Mobile World Congress) that aims to provide a baseline set of requirements around Android version support, security software update frequency, and overall device OS look and feel, which should help business decision makers narrow down brand choices when considering Android deployments for business use.

"Google's Enterprise Recommended program should open up choices in device partners among businesses interested in Android device deployment but is unsure which of the myriad vendors in the market have secure, manageable products that fit with IT requirements," says Phil Hochmuth, program director, Enterprise Mobility at IDC. "It's a good first step, but Google has work to do in building out the entire story of Enterprise Recommended to software and services partners, as well as working to include enterprise-focused OEM partners not included in the program's first iteration."
