This IDC Market Glance is intended to define and illustrate the component building block of data protection as a service (DPaaS) solutions and the vendors that participate in those building block segments. Data protection as a service is a competitive market made up of three functional markets: backup as a service (BaaS), archive as a service (AaaS), and disaster recovery as a service (DRaaS). These markets differ from other data protection markets that IDC follows (i.e., data protection and recovery software) and the vendors that participate in these functional markets may or may not promote their own intellectual property. Rather, they integrate products from multiple vendors to create a solution sold directly to end-user organizations; few organizations can fill all of the product requirements of the solution by themselves.
