Abstract

This IDC Market Note discusses the announcement that Sprint and NXM have joined forces to launch a connectivity system based on blockchain technology for providing secure connected car capabilities to new and pre-owned vehicles in the United States. This Internet of Things (IoT) system, called NXM Wave, is based on the ARM Cortex-A8 CPU processor core running Automotive Grade Linux (AGL) and integrates cellular LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and LoRa radios. The system connects to vehicles using the on-board diagnostics (OBD) interface that is standard on all vehicles manufactured after 1996. The platform will be available for purchase and deployment in vehicles starting in fall 2018 via automotive dealers across the United States.
